The LAS PALMAS PORT AUTHORITY (APLP) has initiated the Healthy Enterprise Implementation Project, integrating the ongoing improvement of Occupational Risk Prevention, the promotion of individual health, work-life balance, the professional development of people together with productivity and competitiveness to achieve the Organisation’s strategic objectives.

This project takes compliance with legal requirements one step further and contributes to increasing the productivity, competitiveness and sustainability of the APLP by encouraging healthy living habits in its employees, organizing various workshops directed by professionals: eating, emotional health and physical activity, etc.

The Management of the Las Palmas Port Authority undertakes to:

Integrate Healthy Living Habits into the company’s activities and decisions as a whole, in both its technical processes and in the way the work is organised.
Implement in the Organisation ongoing improvements in the way the prevention of health deterioration is managed.
Encourage healthy living habits in the employees, boosting teamwork, effort and personal growth.
Achieve motivation and satisfaction at work and general quality of life.
Promote and establish the necessary means so that improvement suggestions are analyzed.
The Management will provide the necessary organisational and material resources to reach the Healthy Organisation target and undertakes to disseminate the Healthy Organisation Policy among all the people who work in the APLP in order to ensure a safe and healthy lifestyle.

Workshops

The Las Palmas Port Authority has initiated the Healthy Enterprise Implementation Project, integrating the ongoing improvement of Occupational Risk Prevention, the promotion of individual health, work-life balance, the professional development of people together with productivity and competitiveness to achieve the Organisation’s strategic objectives.

For this reason, the Management of the Las Palmas Port Authority, within the Occupational Risk Prevention Management System as per OHSAS 18001:2007 specification, has approved as its goal “The Adoption of healthy living habits by 30% of the Port Authority staff” in order to achieve a workspace that protects and promotes the workers’ physical, mental and social wellbeing.

This project takes compliance with legal requirements one step further and contributes to increasing the productivity, competitiveness and sustainability of businesses by encouraging healthy living habits in their employees, organizing various workshops directed by professionals: eating, emotional health and physical activity, postural hygiene, etc.

A variety of actions have been established to be undertaken in the different workshops, among them imparting theory talks and practical workshops on Nutrition, Postural Hygiene and Physical Activity.

The implementation of this project has been very successful, having gone from 18% participation in the first semester to 37% in the second semester.

Competitions

On 30 June 2017 the Port Authority organized a Healthy Recipes competition, which took place in the Social Premises of the Port Authority workers. The aim was to motivate and provide incentives for them and ensure that the workers attending the nutrition workshop had acquired healthy eating habits and applied them in their daily lives.

The jury’s evaluation criteria were the following: (download competition rules)

That the recipe be healthy.

That the recipe be suitable for special groups: coeliac sufferers, people with allergies to egg, to milk, etc.

The recipe content: natural ingredients.

A clear and detailed explanation. Originality, difficulty and interest. Presentation of the dish. Or any other criterion that the organisation deemed appropriate. We not only ensured that the workers applied healthy eating to their day to day; in addition, for the healthiest cooking recipes and taking into account Originality, Our Traditions and Colours of the World, the following prizes were awarded:

First Prize: 1 day for Own Concerns

Second Prize: 1 wok

Third Prize: 1 basket of healthy products.
